Seminole Tribe of Florida Installs Bally’s Award-Winning TableView(TM) Table-Rating and Player-Tracking System for its Networked Floor of the Future(TM)

LAS VEGAS, July 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Bally Technologies, Inc. , a leader in slots, video machines, casino management systems, and networked solutions for the global gaming industry, today announced that the Seminole Tribe of Florida will implement Bally’s TableView table-rating and player-tracking system at its six casinos in south Florida.
Bally’s award-winning TableView allows Seminole casino staff to enter player ratings, request chip fills and credits, and issue customer comps and markers in real time.
The groundbreaking Seminole Tribe of Florida has already implemented the system on 70 tables at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & casino in Hollywood, with plans to ultimately offer TableView on more than 400 tables across six Seminole properties.
Bally’s TableView technology, which recently was recognized by casino Journal as one of the top two ‘Most Innovative Gaming Technology Products of 2007,’ will seamlessly integrate with the Seminole’s high-speed, Ethernet Networked Floor of the Future, which already includes Bally’s comprehensive casino management system, bonusing technology, and iVIEW(TM) interactive player-centric network.
“We did an extensive evaluation of TableView and other vendors’ technology prior to making a commitment to Bally,” said Seminole Gaming Chief Operating Officer John James. “Our users unanimously agreed that TableView is far more user-friendly and is based on solid, current technology. And TableView is a perfect complement to our existing operations because it fully integrates with our Bally casino management system, protecting and enhancing the investment in technology that we’ve already made.”
TableView will allow the Seminole Tribe to track table-game play in a paperless fashion and ensure that their table-game players get the same recognition and rewards as their slot players. The standalone application allows floor operations staff to use touch-screen devices to enter real-time player ratings, request chip fills and credits, open and close tables, issue player comps and markers, and change/roll the table shift. TableView also provides casino personnel with secure and instant access to vital table accounting and financial data.
“We’re delighted to strengthen our partnership with the Seminole Tribe of Florida and provide their industry-leading operations with the most cutting-edge table-rating system,” said Ramesh Srinivasan, Executive Vice President, Bally Systems.
“We are very fortunate to have a large number of casino operations using a Bally casino management system, and our TableView system is a natural extension to these systems,” Srinivasan said. “Our customers have been asking us to provide this comprehensive and integrated functionality, and their requirements have been the primary driver of TableView. We foresee that demand for this product will only continue to grow as casinos seek to increase customer service and run their pits more efficiently.”

Gaming Revenues Fall, but There are Glimmers of Hope

DOVER, Del., July 23 /PRNewswire/ — casino revenues fell throughout the United States in June but showed some signs of stabilizing, according to the National Revenue Report published by Fantini Research.
Gaming win in regional casino markets fell 1.38 percent to $2.225 billion, a deterioration from the year-to-date gain of 1.57 percent.
The damage was worse when new casinos are factored out. Same-store revenues fell 5.66 percent.
However, there are glimmers of hope, the report’s author, Frank Fantini, said in pointing to casino companies such as Ameristar, Pinnacle Entertainment and Isle of Capri that grew revenues through expansions.
Other bright sports include the emerging racino markets of Pennsylvania and New York, where revenues soared 48.9 and 15.5 percent, respectively.
Nonetheless, the 32-page report details the industry’s glum status at mid-year as casinos fight a slow economy, smoking bans in major markets (Atlantic City, Colorado, Illinois), new competition (Atlantic City, Indiana, New Orleans) and flooding rivers (Iowa, Mississippi, Missouri).

Professor Assails Inaccurate Claim by Congressman, Encourages Responsible Internet Gambling Regulation

WASHINGTON, July 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Dr. Jeffrey L. Derevensky, a leading professor at McGill University, contends that Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.) incorrectly cited the university’s research on gambling addiction in arguing for the continued prohibition on Internet gambling. Derevensky in fact believes that the regulation of online gambling is an opportunity to put in place safeguards to combat problem and underage gambling.
In a mark up of the Payments System Protection Act (H.R. 5767) in the House Committee on Financial Services on June 25, 2008, Rep. Bachus, citing research at McGill, claimed that one-third of college students who gambled online attempted suicide.
“This assertion, which is reportedly based upon our empirical research, is not predicated upon any factual evidence,” responded Derevensky in an interview with the Safe and Secure Internet gambling Initiative. “None of the studies conducted with adolescents or college students, to the best of my knowledge, have looked at a connection between Internet wagering and suicide attempts.” Derevensky raised these same concerns in a letter sent last week to Reps. Bachus and Barney Frank (D-Mass.)
Derevensky believes there is an opportunity for Congress to better protect consumers in a regulated environment. “If Congress is serious about minimizing the threat posed by Internet gambling, it should look to create an environment where Internet gambling operators are required to put in place safeguards that protect against compulsive and underage gambling.”
Last week, a study conducted jointly by the University of Western Ontario and University of Nevada, Las Vegas called for the legalization and regulation of online gambling.
“Just as legalized commercial gambling in casinos allows for governments to regulate it, so, too, could the legalization of online gambling allow for better regulation and attempts to reduce the growth of problem gamblers,” said June Cotte, associate professor at the University of Western Ontario, as reported by Poker News.
Existing technology and security controls have already proven to be effective in addressing compulsive gambling. Safeguards currently available in the industry include the ability to control the amount of money wagered, set limits on amounts bet and amounts lost, restrict the duration that someone can play, identify and stop players whose gambling patterns seem out of the ordinary, and allow for consumers to be excluded from online gambling.
“It is disappointing that Rep. Bachus is using scare tactics and false claims in an attempt to justify why Congress should limit my ability to gamble online,” said Jeffrey Sandman, spokesman for the Safe and Secure Internet gambling Initiative. “We are encouraged by the academic community’s support of Internet gambling regulation. They emphasize the important point that consumers will be better protected if there are safeguards put in place to combat underage and problem gambling.”
The Internet gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act of 2007 (H.R. 2046), introduced by Rep. Frank, would establish an enforcement framework for licensed gambling operators to accept bets and wagers from individuals in the U.S. It includes a number of built-in consumer protections, including safeguards against compulsive and underage gambling, money laundering, fraud and identity theft. A companion piece of legislation that would ensure the collection of taxes on regulated Internet gambling activities, the Internet gambling Regulation and Tax Enforcement Act of 2008 (H.R. 5523) was introduced by Congressman Jim McDermott (D-WA).
Additionally, Rep. McDermott introduced last week, the Investing in our Human Resources Act (H.R.6051), which would direct new revenue generated by regulated Internet gambling activities to be spent on job training for those in the declining sectors of the economy and educational assistance for foster care youth. The bill also includes provisions to encourage responsible Internet gambling behavior and an awareness of unsafe practices, something which has been praised by problem gambling advocates.
“Though I support the dedication of resources to raise awareness about problem gambling, I encourage Congress to also provide appropriate funding for research, treatment and the prevention of problem gambling,” added Derevensky.

COACHELLA, Calif., July 11 /PRNewswire/ — This is one concert that is bad to the bone, and has the Coachella Valley preparing to rock like never before. Spotlight 29 casino is welcoming George Thorogood and the Destroyers with special guest Buddy Guy for an incredible night of the Blues on August 2.

George Thorogood and The Destroyers came out of Delaware in the 1970s as what Boston Globe music critic Steve Morse describes as “a jarringly high-energy bunch” with “raucous, slide guitar-stoked, blues-rock covers.”
The band’s cover of Hank Williams’ “Move It On Over,” made them stars in the late 1970s, and a series of gold records followed, including 1982’s “Bad to the Bone” and “Born to Be Bad” (1988). In 2004, the band put out a Capitol compilation, “Greatest Hits: 30 Years of Rock,” which went gold and topped Billboard’s blues chart for 60 weeks, and won the magazine’s award for Blues Record of the Year.
Their list of hits reads like the playlist of every classic rock station in America, including “Bad to the Bone,”"You Talk Too Much,”"I Drink Alone,”"One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer.” Thorogood will also appear on Elvin Bishop’s upcoming album, scheduled for release later this year.
Renowned blues guitarist and singer Buddy Guy is considered by many to be the master of Chicago-style electric blues. In a career spanning more than 45 years, he has won five Grammy Awards, both for his work on his electric and acoustic guitars, and for contemporary and traditional forms of blues music.
By 2004, Buddy Guy had also earned 23 W.C. Handy Awards (the most any one blues artist has received), Billboard Magazine’s prestigious The Century Award (Guy was its second recipient) for “distinguished artistic achievement,” the title of Greatest Living Electric Blues Guitarist, and a Congressional Medal of Arts (awarded by the President to those who have made extraordinary contributions to the creation, growth and support in the arts in the United States).
In 2005 Buddy Guy was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame by friends Eric Clapton and BB King. Guy gave a very simple acceptance speech: “If you don’t think you has the blues, just keep living.”
Tickets for George Thorogood and the Destroyers with special guest Buddy Guy are $75, $65 and $55 and are on sale now at Spotlight29.com and at the Spotlight 29 casino Gift Shop or by calling (800) 585-3737. Show time is 8 p.m.
